Calling all qualified web developers
Written on August 8, 2006
It seems there is an abundance of under qualified web developers out there. Anyone that can plug a code into their MySpace is eager to call themselves a coding expert.
Robin Dindayal, corporate blogger and Lead Software Developer for iUpload, has been conducting interviews for a design position at the company. He has compiled a list of 9 important qualities a web designer must have for this position. These qualities are very insightful as to what employers look for in web designers.
1. Somebody who knows that JSON is not Jason with the “a” missing
2. Somebody who knows that AJAX is not the city of Ajax in all capitals
3. Somebody who knows that being an ASP has nothing to do with ASP
4. Somebody who knows that HCI is not an acronym for a local school
5. Somebody who knows that developing standards compliant XHTML is extremely important
6. Somebody who knows that the complete abstraction of layout and style (i.e. CSS) from content is extremely important
7. Somebody who knows that blogs are not just a place you write your feelings
8. Somebody who knows why wikis are so revolutionary
9. Somebody who knows what web 2.0 is all about
Awareness plays a role in design? Who would have guessed.
