Selling items on your site with booBox

Written on January 22, 2007

A new start-up company, booBox, will allow bloggers to sell merchandise from Amazon on there blog. But wait, can’t you already do that with the Amazon Affiliate Program? Yes, but after reading this you’ll be sure to switch.

Brazil-based booBox is still in the beta phase, but will soon release a set of tools for webmasters to sell products on their website. From what I understand, booBox will be compatible with a multitude of different shopping affiliate programs. You can implement booBox with text or an image. When clicked, it will bring up a light box within your website. The visitor can browse items related the article they were reading and make a purchase without ever leaving your site.

What’s not clear yet is how booBox users will integrate it into their site. However, sales are made with the blogger’s own affiliate code, so you don’t lose any profit. And the list of merchandise is determined by tags the user puts on their image.

Even while booBox is in its early stages, bloggers already maximizing their AdSense profits will surely be interested in the service. However, booBox probably isn’t for everyone. I have a hard time thinking of a situation where I could use it on Ontora. A gadget site, on the other hand, would surely have success with it.

booBox is still in the private beta stage, but you can sign-up to try booBox once it’s released here.
