Simple way to improve your Technorati rank

Written on March 7, 2007

If you have an established blog of any level, chances are you get a lot of backlinks to your site that Technorati and Google don’t pick up on right away. Well, if Technorati doesn’t discover these links within 100 days, it throws them out. Basically worthless links as far as Technorati is concerned. The trick is to use these “hidden” links to your advantage.

What’s a Technorati rank?
Technorati is the largest blog directory on the web. Every blog included is given a Technorati rank, starting in the millions. The more back links to a certain blog, the more “popular” that blog is considered to be so its Technorati ranking improves. The lower the ranking a blog has, the better. The better the ranking, the more attention and publicity it receives, and the more money it makes.

Every once in a while, I’ll stumble on a blog that’s linking to my site that Technorati doesn’t know about. If Technorati picked up on all of these links at once it would drastically raise your ranking. I managed to raise Ontora from the 500,000s to the 400,000s with this little trick.

All you need to do is collect a list of all of the blogs that have unrecognized links to you. Then, manually ping Technorati with each URL. If done in succession, Technorati will show you some love. Do this once a week and you’ll be on your way to the top 100.
