Google hates me

Written on March 1, 2007

Punching Computer Oh why does Google hate me so? Ontora.com’s been around for over a year now. When I moved the blog to WordPress.com, it took Google a few weeks to figure out that it was the same site. Eventually they counted all of the links to Ontora.com as links to Ontora.WordPress.com, giving the new blog a pagerank of 4. Unfortunately, Google hasn’t been nearly as generous now that we’ve moved back to Ontora.com.

Google is a picky eater
The big G is extremely picky about backlinks. Despite the fact that there are 100’s of websites and blogs that link to this domain, Google doesn’t register a single one. Google only shows that four web pages link to ontora.com, all of which are… ontora.com? Wait, what’s going on here?

For comparison, let’s take a look at what other search engines think of me.
Yahoo! - 237 links to www.ontora.com
Live Search - 295 links to www.ontora.com

Cleary, something is fishy here if other search engines say I have an upward of 200 backlinks while Google says I have none.

Now, I realize that Google doesn’t like people changing domains on them. However, I’ve given them two whole months to adjust their search results, and nothing’s budged.

I’m not asking Google to count all 200 backlinks. It’s good that Google’s selective about their results - it’s why their number one. However, it doesn’t make any sense that I am the only one linking to myself.

Perhaps this will all be fixed during their next pagerank update cycle. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
