Google and YouTube: BFF

Written on January 25, 2007

When Google announced they were acquiring YouTube for $1.65 billion, everyone had one question on there minds: why? Google already has a flourishing online video service (ala Google Video), so how did they plan to integrate YouTube with their services? Well, we finally have some answers.

Google is all about search and connecting people with information. YouTube is all about community. Google has already promised to keep the two enterprises separate. Today they announced plans that would tune the efforts of the two services.

Starting today, YouTube video results will appear in the Google Video search index. When you click on a YouTube video from the search results, you will be taken to YouTube.com to view the video. Over time, Google Video will become even more comprehensive as it evolves into a global search platform where you can search for videos in all corners of the web, regardless of where it’s hosted.
